What is Disney’s Hollywood Studios build a Droid experience like? The droid-building experience at Disney World is a fun experience for Star Wars fans visiting the Disney theme park.
If you are a Star Wars fan, and honestly even if you are not, you should consider the Hollywood Studios build a Droid Disney World Experience. Guests can build their very own custom Droid at the Galaxy’s Edge Droid Depot.
It is a unique experience to add on to your day at the park.
Disney park guests can build a Droid at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge area. Galaxy’s Edge is the immersive Star Wars land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
It transports you to the Star Wars universe. There you will find two rides: Rise of the Resistance and Millennium Falcon. You will also find Savi’s Workshop, where guests can build their own lightsabers, as well as numerous shops and dining options.
There is also a Star Tours attractions outside of Galaxy’s Edge.
Guests can also meet and see characters from Star Wars and make a reservation time for the Droid building experience.
Guests will be in awe when they find themselves leaving the theme park and stepping into a planet from a galaxy far far away.
One of the coolest experiences at Galaxy’s Edge is the Build a Droid Experience. Guests can customize their own Droid that can make sound, move around, and even interact with certain elements in the land.
It has a remote control and personality chips to create a unique experience at the theme parks.
Hollywood Studios Build a Droid Disney World Experience
First you want to make sure you purchased a theme park ticket and made your park reservation. This can be done on the My Disney Experience app.
Whether you are staying on-site at one of the Disney World resorts like Disney’s Riviera Resort or Disney’s Art of Animation resort, or you are staying at an off-site resort like Encore Resort, you want to purchase tickets for Hollywood Studios before you arrive.
Guests will need to purchase tickets, make park reservations for Hollywood Studios and make reservations for Droid Depot. Choose the best time to work with your dining reservations and plan for the park day.
Where to Build a Droid at Hollywood Studios
Guests visiting Hollywood Studios can build a droid in the Galaxy’s Edge area of the park. It is located in the Droid Depot gift shop.
How Long Does it Take to Build a Droid
Expect the build a Droid experience to take between 30-60 minutes from start to finish. We completed it in 30 minutes from check-in to finish.
Droid Depot Cost
A droid cost $119.99 plus tax. A carrying box and instructions are included. Additional accessories like the droid backpack and personality chips may be added at additional cost.
Pro Tip: Allow a lot of time to explore Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Check out the dining and attractions, meet some characters, and soak in the immersive land of Batuu.
How to Make Disney Droid Reservations
I strongly suggest you make reservations for your Droid experience. This will save you time and allow you to plan your day accordingly. Reservations can be made here.
Do they accept walk-ins at Droid Depot at Galaxy’s Edge
They do leave reservations open for walk-ins. Check in at the Droid Depot desk to see if there is availability. If you do not have reservations expect to wait in a long line. This could lead to a long wait so plan accordingly.
How Old Do You Have to Be to Build a Droid at Disney World
Disney recommends the Droid building for ages 3+. One person in the party must be older than 14.
How Many People Can Build a Droid at a Time
One of the challenging parts of building a droid as a family is they only allow 2 guests at a station and only 1 person can make the droid. If you are looking to share one droid for the family this may be an issue.
When we visited the three kids were able to work together at the station to make one droid but this was pre-covid and is no longer the case.
If you have a large family expect to split in groups of 2 for this experience with each group making 1 droid. You may be able to watch from behind a gate.
Our build station was a corner so my husband and I could stand to the side, not at a station, and still watch.

Droid Depot Backpack
The Droid Depot Backpack is an add on that guests can purchase to carry their Droid around the parks. Within Galaxy’s Edge the Droid will interact with different features.
If you would like to include the backpack you can upgrade your purchase for $49.99. If you are planning on spending the day at the park it may be useful to have the backpack to carry your Droid.
We did our experience later in the day and carrying it in the box wasn’t an issue for us.
Can You Use the Droid in the Park
There is a small section in Galaxy’s Edge that you can try out your Droid, but you can’t drive it around the park on the ground during your visit.
Build Process for Making a Droid at the Droid Depot Experience
- Check-in to the Droid Depot
- Decide on Which Droid You Will Make: R-Series or BB-Series
- Start at the conveyer belt (parts station) where you will pick out the different parts you need for your Droid. There are all different color pieces to customize your droid anyway you would like. You are given a basket to collect your items that will show you what you need to collect.
- Next go over to the building station (assembly station) where a cast member will assist you on how to put your Droid together.
- Finally you and the cast member will activate your Droid. The activation process is really cute and it is fun to see your new droid come to life!
Is Droid Building at Disney Worth It
For us- Yes! We had a blast building our Droid and have even enjoyed it at home. I enjoyed seeing the kids personalities come out in their customization choices.
You end up with a really unique and one of a kind souvenir. Our droid is purple, blue, and red which may not make sense at all but it is a bit of all of us and brings back fun memories of our visit.
I can’t tell you if spending an extra $120.00 on a souvenir is worth it though, because it is a personal decision. If you enjoy Star Wars even the slightest you will probably enjoy this add on experience.
If Star Wars is not your thing I would skip this because it is a steep cost and your time would be better spent elsewhere.
Spending the day at Hollywood Studios building a Droid was a highlight of our Disney trip. It is a very fun add-on experience to your day at the park.
